Participative Context Analysis in Rural Areas

The participative context analysis in Rural Areas aims at initiating a self-analysis process in rural areas through Reciprocal Maieutic Approach in order to identify context-specific needs, increase motivation and raise awareness about the importance and potential of digital and transversal competences necessary for the current and future labour market, education and social life. After the creation of ‘Digital Village Communities’ composed by educational institutions, local authorities and policy makers in the rural areas of implementing countries, self-analysis workshops will be implemented with target groups who are part of the Digital Village Community:

  • at least 10 educational teaching staff (teachers, trainers, educators from different educational institutions or community organizations, also technical or administrative staff can be included)
  • at least 10 school students (from middle school and up – VET students are also included)
  • at least 10 adult learners (or other learners not included in the school system)
  • at least 1 policy maker in the field of education (municipality, regional or national government)

The process of self-analysis will consist of cycles of national workshops to discuss about the rural area, how it is lived by its inhabitants, the current state in terms of digital skills development, specific of each target group focusing on digital skills and to identify common needs in the light of an open dialogue between groups that otherwise would not take the time to listen or know about each other’s needs thus increasing awareness, understanding and feeling of community.

The results of the workshops will be summarized after the complete cycle in each country, pointing out the emerged needs and in a comprehensive scientific article about the self-analysis process through RMA and outcomes in each respective rural area.

Manual and methodological framework on RMA for context analysis towards the digital transformation: The current manual is one of the core documents that supported the implementation of the self-analysis workshops in the rural areas. The document provides insights on the life of Danilo Dolci, an overview on the Reciprocal Maieutic Approach and practical information on the implementation of the workshops, thus providing tools and suggestions for the maieutic trainers in this first phase of the project implementation. The manual functioned as a reference for all maieutic coordinators during the Workshops cycles and it is a resource for future trainers or researchers who want to create change in education and awareness raising through participatory processes and self-analysis workshops outside the project.
